Trying a new massage therapist can feel like a gamble. Will they listen? Will the pressure be right? Will it actually help? At Inner Map Massage & Yoga in Elmhurst, your first visit is designed to answer those questions before the massage even starts.
Before you arrive
Book online and choose your therapist. Sabrina and Brenda are both Illinois-licensed massage therapists.
If it is your first time, book the New Client Massage & Assessment and plan for about 90 minutes.
Wear comfortable clothes and arrive about 5 minutes early.
Parking is free. We are at 188 Industrial Dr, Suite 218. Head up the main lobby staircase to the second floor and Suite 218 is on your left. See directions.
Step 1: We talk first
Your session starts with a conversation. Where does it hurt? How long has it been going on? What makes it better or worse? What do you do for work, and how do you move during the day? This is also the time to share any injuries, health conditions or pregnancy so your therapist can plan a safe session.
Step 2: A quick movement assessment
Next, your therapist looks at your posture and how you move. Pain in one spot often comes from a pattern somewhere else, like tight hips pulling on the low back or desk posture loading the neck and shoulders. The intake and assessment take about 30 minutes, and they shape everything that follows.
Step 3: Your massage
Your therapist steps out while you get on the table, and you stay covered with a sheet except for the area being worked on. From there, the session is built around what we found, blending techniques like deep tissue, trigger point therapy or Swedish massage.
You are always in charge of the pressure. Deep work does not have to hurt. Speak up anytime if you want more, less, or want us to skip an area, and your therapist will check in with you along the way.
Step 4: Aftercare and a plan
Before you leave, you will get a stretch or two to do at home and an honest recommendation for what comes next, whether that is a follow-up in a couple of weeks or simply coming back when you need it. Drink some water and take it easy for the rest of the day if you can.
Common first-timer questions
Do I have to undress? Undress to your comfort level. Many people leave underwear on, and some prefer to stay partly clothed. You will be draped the whole time.
What if I fall asleep? That is a compliment. Plenty of people do.
Can I use my HSA or FSA card? Yes, we accept both. Read more in how to use your FSA or HSA on massage.
