Use Your FSA or HSA on Massage Before December 31

If you have money left in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), the end of the year sneaks up fast. Many FSA plans are "use it or lose it," which means unused 2026 funds can disappear after December 31. Massage therapy may be one of the most useful ways to spend that balance, especially if you have been putting off care for a sore back, neck or shoulders.

Here is what to know before you book.

Can I use my FSA or HSA for massage?

Often, yes, when the massage treats a medical condition. Massage for chronic pain, an injury, tension headaches or recovery from surgery can qualify as an eligible health expense. Massage booked purely for relaxation usually does not.

Some plans ask for a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from your doctor. It is a short note that says massage therapy is recommended for a specific condition. If your plan requires one, ask your doctor for it before you submit a claim, and keep a copy with your receipts.

Every plan is different, so the quickest way to be sure is to call your plan administrator or check your benefits portal.

FSA vs. HSA: which one expires?

  • FSA (Flexible Spending Account): funds are usually tied to the plan year. Some plans offer a short grace period or let you carry over a small amount, but many balances simply expire. Check your plan for your exact deadline.

  • HSA (Health Savings Account): the money is yours and rolls over year to year, so there is no rush. You can still use it for eligible massage therapy any time.

How to pay at Inner Map

Inner Map Massage & Yoga accepts HSA and FSA cards. Book online, choose your therapist and session length, and pay with your card at checkout like any other card. If your plan needs an itemized receipt, ask us for one.

Which massage should I book?

You do not need to pick a technique. Book a 60 or 90 minute massage, tell us what is bothering you, and your therapist will build the session around it. If it is your first visit, the New Client Massage & Assessment includes an intake and movement assessment so we can find the source of the problem, not just the sore spot.

Popular choices for pain and tension include deep tissue massage, sports massage and myofascial release. See every option and price on our massage services page.
